• ObservationsThis layer was begun during the 2005 season so it has rested under backfill for a year. Additionally, just shortly after it was uncovered from the backfill the area expereinced two days of periodic heavy rain. This left standing water in some of the lower sections (E and W corners). This may have affected interpretation of soil color, etc.
• Dating ElementsBronze Coin (#3408) appears to be datable to Byzantine Emperor Basil I (r.867-886); Glass bracelet fragment (#3392) and pottery are datable to Constantinople productions of 9-10c.
