• DefinitionLarge area of black ashy soil in center of courtyard
• DescriptionBlack ashy soil with large amounts of industrial debris (metal slag). Has brown, gray, and green ashy silty inclusions [and it] also has orange and yellow clay inclusions. Original definition of context was approximately 2M (N-S) X 1M (E-W). As context was excavated its definition stretched [extended] southward another 60 cm and the area to the north was assigned [to] another context (563). Depth of context varied from approximately 30-55 cm.
• ObservationsContext 525 is super strange and different from the other black ashy contexts that were located under context 509. It is both deeper and less defined, it tends to dive in strange directions. Concentration of bones in the southern end (S/SE). Just less than half of the datable ceramics are from earlier period than the XIII century. In retrospect, some of the artifacts removed as [part of] SR 525 were likely from context 563 (see sketch on back) [see context 563 form for further explanation].
