  • Cut of pit in room 37
  • The cut was located in the middle of the excavated portion of room 37. Soil was darker (very dark brown grey) than surrounding matrix of SR411 and SR426 and much looser in consistency. The cut was approximately 2.3 meters along the N-S axis and 2.5 meters along the E-W axis
  • Recognized by loose fill and change of the color of the soil. This area was originally identified as Courtyard 1, but was later changed to room 37 after wall separating the two was located.

Interpretation

    • The cut of a large pit. In my opinion, this cut was made with some kind of construction process in mind, possibly a cistern or well? However, when the large pavers located approx. 1 meter down were found, excavation stopped, the pit was filled, and a shoddy wall was built on top of it. Of course, the excavation of this pit may have been made to locate the large pavers of what may be a tomb?
